- A non-anime will win Show of the Year again in 2017, marking the first time non-anime animated shows have won Show of the Year two years straight since 2003 and 2004.
- On the T-10 Chart, there were 30 No. 1’s, unchanged vs. last year.
- Of the 30 No. 1 shows, just twelve were anime that led for a total of 17 weeks (down from 29 weeks last year). That was the fewest number of weeks the anime genre led the T-10 chart in a single year since 2003 when just five anime led for just 12 weeks.
- It was a big year for debuts: forty-five shows debuted on the T-10 chart this year. That is up from 32 in 2016. The number of debuts in 2017 was the most since 2000, and the third most in T-10 chart history.
- And to go along with the 45 debuts, ten shows (22% of the debuts) debuted at #1 on the T-10 chart, the most in a single year on record: Mia and Me (Jan. 7), Steven Universe (Jan. 28), Sabrina’s Secret Life (Feb. 11), Cyborg 009: Call of Justice (Feb. 18), Voltron: Legendary Defender (May 6), Miniforce (Jun. 24), LEGO: Elves (Jul. 15), Hellsing (Aug. 19), ID-0 (Oct. 14), and Galaxy Express 999 (Nov. 25). The 10 debuts beats the previous record of eight set in 2015 and 2016.
- After ending 2016 with a streak of shows grossing more than 500 million grosses, 500 million gross No. 1 weeks became commonplace for the first time in 2017.
- Three shows debuted at No. 1 on the Top 25 Shows chart this year: Mia and Me in February, Steven Universe in March (the first pair of back-to-back #1 debuts in Top 25 Shows since 2007), and Tara Duncan in August, the first #1 debut during that month.
- There are no anime in the top 10 of the Year-End chart for the first time since 1998.
On the list:
- Steven Universe is Top 25 Shows’ Show of the Year for 2017. Steven was the favorite almost since its debut.
- Steven dominated the charts for most of this year. It was #1 for six non-consecutive months in Top 25 Shows, including five consecutive months during March, April, May, June, and July. Steven also led the T-10 chart for ten weeks, leading every other show: Jan. 28, Feb. 25, Mar. 4, Mar. 11, Mar. 18, Mar. 25, Apr. 1, May 20, Jun. 3, and Dec. 30. It tied with Star Trek: The Next Generation on Mar. 25 and Elena of Avalor on Apr. 1.
- Steven Universe was the biggest grossing show of 2017 with 23.44 billion grosses, the most a show has ever grossed in a single year.
- Steven Universe beats Elena of Avalor 513-491 points (51.1% to 48.9%). That 2.2% victory much closer than originally expected, especially considering Steven held a massive 13%, 92-point advantage over Elena at the Mid-Year 20. This is mainly due to Elena of Avalor winning a spate of Pacesetters this year allowing the Disney-imprint show to take a more than 100 point lead over Steven Universe in Top 25 Shows points (433-332). What put Steven over the top was the overwhelming lead it garnered on the Annual Gross Races chart and the 90 points it received from the T-10 chart.
- Elena of Avalor finished 2nd. In the best showing ever from the Disney imprint, Elena led the chart in January and racked up a stunning 433 points from the Top 25 Shows chart. This is on the strength of three Pacesetters during the year, including the one in November which put it over the 400 point mark. This is the most Top 25 Shows points a show has received since switching to the inverse point system in 2009.
- Elena led one T-10 chart on Apr. 1 tying with Steven Universe.
- My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, last year’s Show of the Year, finishes 3rd. Pony ends the year holding the all-time career No. 1‘s record for both the Top 25 Shows and T-10 charts. The Top 25 Shows career No. 1’s record finally fell in November when Pony won its 13th career month at No. 1. The career No. 1’s record on the T-10 chart was also broken on Dec. 16 when Pony won its 40th career No. 1, surpassing Timothy Goes to School. Pony tied Timothy’s record on Oct. 21.
- The November No. 1 was Pony’s only Top 25 Shows No. 1 this year while the Hasbro-imprint show led the T-10 chart seven times: Apr. 22, Apr. 29, May 27, Sept. 23, Oct. 7, Oct. 21, and Dec. 16 (tied with JK-Meshi).
- Pony finished 2nd on the Annual Gross Races chart grossing 14.73 billion grosses.
- LEGO: Friends of Heartlake City finishes 4th. Friends never led the Top 25 Shows, but it did lead the T-10 chart on Nov. 11. It led the Annual Gross Races chart on Mar. 4 and finished 4th on that chart with 9.47 billion grosses.
- Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath puts up a surprisingly strong 5th place finish. It led the Top 25 Shows chart in December. It grossed 2.3 billion grosses for that No. 1, the most ever for a live-action show. It finished 7th on the Annual Gross Races chart with 6.92 billion grosses.
- The Bold and the Beautiful finishes 6th. B&B led the May 13th T-10 chart and was the 5th biggest grossing show of 2017 with 7.7 billion grosses.
- Voltron: Legendary Defender finishes 7th. It is the highest ranked of the Netflix Original shows that made the chart this year. It peaked at #2 on the Top 25 Shows and won two weeks at #1 on the T-10 chart: May 6, when it debuted at #1, and Jun. 17. Voltron was the 9th biggest grossing show of the year with 6.41 billion.
- The Young and the Restless finishes 8th. Y&R finally fell off the chart in November for the first time since 2008. Y&R was the 6th biggest grossing show of 2017 moving 7.49 billion grosses.
- Star Wars Rebels finished 9th. Rebels led the Jan. 21 T-10 chart where it broke the overall #1 week grossing record (which was promptly broken by Steven Universe upon its debut the following week). Rebels finished 8th on the Annual Gross Races chart grossing 6.74 billion grosses.
- Law & Order: Special Victims Unit finished 10th. SVU was the 11th biggest grossing show of 2017 with 5.15 billion.
Elsewhere on the chart…
- Cyborg 009: Call of Justice is the highest ranked anime finishing 11th. Cyborg 009 led two T-10 charts: Feb. 18, where it debuted at #1, and Aug. 5. The Aug. 5 #1 featured Cyborg 009 breaking the overall #1 week grossing record. It held the record for just two weeks until it was broken by Hellsing on Aug. 19.

- KiraKira PreCure! A La Mode, the latest season in the Pretty Cure franchise, finished a disappointing 22nd. This is the worst finish ever from a current Pretty Cure season. It debuted and peaked at #6 in April then quickly slipped down the chart.
