TOP 25 SHOWS 2007 YEAR IN REVIEW

2007 was another strong year for the anime complex; however, the anime streak at No. 1 came to an abrupt end in July when “Real Time with Bill Maher” roared into the Top 25 Shows penthouse. That ended the streak at 31 months. We saw another anime-exclusive Top 10 Shows of the Week chart the week of April 21.
A new record was set in the proportion of No. 1’s that were anime. A record twenty-seven of the 31 shows that headed the weekly tally led it for a total of 46 weeks out of 52, the second biggest proportion of weeks going to the anime complex. Also no show managed to log more than 7 weeks at No. 1 this year, the first such occurrence.
Licensing company FUNimation Productions breaks the record for the most appearances on a Year-End chart making 10 different appearances, beating the previous record of eight set originally by Nelvana on the 2001 Year-End chart and later tied by FUNimation on last year‘s chart.
“Blood+” is Top 25 Shows 2007 Show of the Year. This is “Blood+’s” first appearance on the Year-End chart becoming the first show in Top 25 Shows history to win Show of the Year on its first appearance on the Year-End tally.
“Blood+” won a month at No. 1 in September. It also logged five weeks at No. 1 in the Top 10 Shows of the Week chart, its most recent came the week of November 17. “Blood+” was also the year’s biggest grossing show moving 9.35 billion grosses. “Blood+” also led the AGR the most weeks (21).
“Kiddy Grade”, another show that didn’t make the Year-End chart last year, finishes 2nd this year. “Grade” won a month at No. 1 in Top 25 Shows chart back in April. It also led the AGR the 2nd most weeks with 15, but quickly dropped late in the year to a 7th place finish. It also hands Japanese animation firm GONZO its best ever Year-End placement, besting the 3rd place finish from “Chrono Crusade” in 2006.
“Moon Phase” finishes 3rd in 2007, up from a dead last finish in 2006. “Phase” logged a month at No. 1 in Top 25 Shows in October. It won the No. 1 after the English dub made its premiere on the AZN television network back in August. “Moon Phase” logged two No. 1’s on the Top 10 tally in 2007.
“Real Time with Bill Maher” finishes 4th in 2007. As previously mentioned, “Real Time” was the show that ended the anime complex’s No. 1 streak when it won a month at No. 1 in July. “Real Time” was the 2nd biggest grossing show of 2007. “Gunslinger Girl” finishes 5th in 2007 also making its first appearance. “Gunslinger Girl” was the Annual Gross Races chart leader for 11 weeks, the 3rd most weeks this year. It also spent a month at No. 1 in March, and won one week at No. 1 on the Top 10 tally.
“Vampire Princess Miyu” finishes 6th. “Miyu” won the most weeks at No. 1 this year on the Top 10 Shows of the Week chart with seven. “Miyu” logged two months at No. 1 on Top 25 Shows, and was the 9th biggest grossing show. “.hack//Roots” ends 2007 in 7th place. It was the first No. 1 of 2007 in Top 25 Shows and was the 10th different No. 1 of 2007. It was the 8th biggest grossing show of 2007. “Divorce Court” finishes 2007 in 8th place. “Divorce Court” spent one month at No. 4 in Top 25 Shows, and was No. 2 on the weekly tally the week of April 7. “sola” ends the year 9th. “sola” was the second of two straight No. 1 debuts in Top 25 Shows in May and June. “sola” won 3 weeks at No. 1 on the weekly tally, and was the 18th biggest grossing show of 2007. “Countdown with Keith Olbermann” rounded out the top-10. “Countdown” was No. 2 in December in Top 25 Shows, and was the 5th biggest grossing show of 2007.
Last year’s 2nd place finish, “Negima”, finishes 2007 in 11th place. “Bleach” ends 12th, “Trinity Blood” finishes 13th, “Spiral” ends 14th, and “World of Narue” closes out 2007 in 15th position.
“Bottle Fairy” logs the lowest ever finish for a No. 1 debut. It finishes 16th. “Fairy” debuted at No. 1 in April and won a week at No. 1 the week of April 28.
Last year’s Show of the Year, “Fruits Basket”, failed the make the cut.
